Our Backstory
Best Practice Group is the brainchild of our founder, John Peterson. John recognised a significant gap in the market for Accountants and Advisers. Who was their trusted advisor? Although there were coaches and consultants, John believed there was no single one-stop-shop for advice that Accountants could count of for every element of their well-being.
Enter the Best Practice Group.
Prior to launching BPG, John’s knowledge and experience was credentialled in three key areas:
CHAPTER ONE
GROWTH
John joined the Yellow Pages organisation at the peak of its powers, the late 1980’s. In less than three years, John was promoted at 22 years old to their youngest ever District Manager with a multi-million-dollar budget. John’s passion for small business owners and their struggles was established at this point. He excelled in advertising, communications, marketing, and sales. However, the small business stress points fascinated John so he went looking for the next source of knowledge.
CHAPTER TWO
LEADERSHIP & CULTURE CHANGE
John went to work for Jack Zenger, the world’s foremost authority on Leadership and Culture Change. Jack’s own firm employed 1,500 management consultants and was ranked 250 in the Fortune 500.
Located in Brisbane, John felt out of his depth for the first year. Then suddenly, it came together. He soon became one of Australia’s top leadership and change management consultants, working with household brands such as Arnotts, Conrad Jupiter's Casino, Country Road, Suncorp, Telstra, Westpac and so on.
CHAPTER THREE
HEADHUNTING & RECRUITMENT
John became the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Robertson Smart, a Singapore-based executive search firm. Living in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney, John took the business from USD 1M to USD 15M in just three years. At this point, John had learned how to source leading talent in a lot of industries, including Accounting, Advertising, Banking & Finance, Engineering, FMCG, Information Technology, and Law.
Combining these three key chapters left John feeling compelled to start his own consulting firm and bring these offerings to the underserviced SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) sector via public accountants.
